Poetry and Confidence

Well, here they are. Two new poems. I've never posted any of my poetry, never felt it was up to the task. I also didn't have the confidence, but even now, as I post, I still have my doubts. A friend has urged me on, and only because she keep poking and poking, helping me to find a belief that people just might be interested in my work, what I am saying. I don't think it's unique, nor am I saying anything that hasn't been said since man started writing about his personal life experiences, but maybe it'll connect with someone. We'll see. I hope you enjoy what I have to say and offer, I appreciate any of you taking the time to stop by and read. Even if you hate it, you took the time, and I thank you.

What, the hell? It's been 5 months since I've made an entry and probably just as long since I've posted any new photography. This past year hasn't been one of my most creative, photography wise. It's not that I haven't been taking pictures, it's that most of them have been less arty and more for documenting...maybe some of them are worth posting here, I'll have to go through some of them again, and take another look.
It was our first full year back in Columbus, and we are still happy that we made the move back to Ohio. We miss many things from out in Utah, family being at the top of the list. Other things we miss...such as our proximity to Zion NP, some killer mountain biking, snowboarding at Brian Head, and...well..the weather. But, with those good things, saving our sanity was the biggest deal, so we are back home in Columbus...and we love it. We're still attempting to sell our house in Utah, and we will this year. We have anew realtor, and she seems more on her game than the last.
I'm aiming to shoot more photos this year, as well as attend to some other creative outlets. Work is still busy and work on our house here in Columbus continues, the basement is almost finished and will soon be ready for a living space. Then it's on to tearing up the kitchen...lots to do.
I've continued commuting by bike to work, despite the cold weather, though I don't do it everyday, I do get it done at least 2-3 days, but some days, riding 9.8 miles in 20 degree weather is tough and really wears on my body...but I'll be damn ready for warmer weather though.
I do want all of those that are on my watch list that I do check in from time to time and peep out what you've all been up to and shooting, so despite my lack of activity, I do keep up with all of you.

Thanks for reading and have a safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Well, folks it has taken me two days to get my mind around what I experienced this past Saturday at the Ohio Theater here in Columbus, Ohio, and that experience had a name and it's name was Tom Waits. I'm not even sure that I can convey in words what we had the pleasure of witnessing.
The Ohio Theater was packed and when the lights finally dimmed the roar of the crowd was deafening and everybody gave the man a standing ovation, which was only one of many. One of the guys sitting to our left said that he read online that Tom started every show with the same song, but from then on there was no set list they just played it by ear. The show began with a blend of three songs Lucinda/Falling Down/Way Down In The Hole and Tom was amazing right from the get go. He stood on his raised platform like a carnival barker surrounded by various instruments and lighting. When he stomped his feet on the platform, the powder that covered it began coming to life swirling around like smoke from unknown depths. Each song from there on out was decided on the fly, which made the show even more intimate and unique, no two shows would be the same.
I went into this show(for the first time in my concert going career) with no song expectations...none, I just wanted to hear Tom Waits...period. So any songs were welcome, but as the show went I realized some were pleasant surprises. Songs such as Eyeball Kid, Dirt In The Ground, Misery Is The River Of The World, and The House Where Nobody Lived, Big In Japan, and Lie To Me brought a smile to my face. He slowed things down and just played piano while speaking to the crowd between songs. He did another song blend with Get Behind the Mule and 16 Shells From A Thirty-Ought-Six. I wish I could recall all of the songs he played in his two hour set, but words are failing to capture what we saw and experienced. I will say this, and those that know me will know how serious I am, this performance ranks up in my top five and pretty close to the top. I have never been to a show like this, it was so unique and special that it trumps many other shows I thought were tops. Weird, I know, but what can I say. I'm also sorry my recap fails to capture or give enough details to those who may be reading this, but it was one of those truly cliche moments where....well...you had to be there. His presence on stage was commanding and enthralling, and you felt that if you took your eye off if him for a second you would miss something, and chances are you did or would.
Now, listening to and observing the crowd was interesting and annoying. Lots of people there who were just there to say they were, scene makers I guess. I also overheard one guy say that he didn't recognize half the songs and couldn't understand most of what Tom was singing. Then why were you there? But, none of this ruined our night.
Thanks, Tom, we appreciate you making a stop in Columbus, Ohio and gracing us with a fantastic and supernatural evening.

heat, rain, and a slow trickle of creativity

Well, well, well, my friends. Here we are entering into summer in Ohio and my how we forget what humidity is. The last few days of rain has had the humidity covering me like moist suit. I'm not complaining though, it's just amazing how living in a dry environment for 2+ years lets the body forget what this feels like. I am digging the warm/hot weather though.

Life moves forward. We continue work on the house, and are now renovating the basement into a living space.

The house in Utah still hasn't sold, but we've had an offer from someone who wants to rent it. We'll be checking into that, because at least then we can have someone alleviate the money burden that it is. We'll rent it until they don't want to, then put it up for sale. We'll see, It's something we are researching.

Creativity of late has been few and far in between. It seems to have taken some sort of hiatus, but failed to let me know, which was a big surprise when I went to use it. The good news is that it seems to be trickling back in from where where-ever it went, but it has brought back some good ideas and appears refreshed, which is s good thing. Thanks for coming back, creativity.

That's it for now, thanks for reading my drivel.

The truth comes when you can see that your self-image is nothing more that a convenient reference point and nothing more, and that you yourself do not exist

I just had to share the news, I know there are a few people here who will appreciate this.
Tom Waits is going on tour, a very short tour. The Glitter and Doom Tour will make a stop right here in f-ing Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio Theater. Ohio....Columbus....Tom Waits.
Columbus is the only midwest city he'll be hitting do the the fact his tour route is determined by the constellation Hydra and C-Bus happens to top out the constellation.
I was ready at 10:00 to get tickets, figuring they would sell out quick like, did they I don't know yet, but just seconds into the start of the sale I was back in the mezzonine. Oh, yes, brothers, sisters, , friends, country men, and all others, my wife and I got tickets to see Tom Waits. I had an adrenalin rush buying the tix, isn't that sad? She's geeked, I'm geeked.
If anyone else got tix congrats, see youn there.

Peep the tour info here> [link]

Peace,
Patrick
