"All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else."
- Buddha

I know it's been like this for years, but for some reason of late, the way the weather and environmental conditions are reported and described is quite beyond annoying and just plain absurd.

I shall rant only briefly.

We have a tendency to take an event that occurs naturally and according to earthly conditions, as it has for millions upon millions of years, and personify it or respond with general shock and disbelief. It's as if when "bad" things happen with the weather, we are experiencing them for the first time in human history. When it rains and snow melts, all in a short period of time, and the rivers we diverted, damned, and just plain overdeveloped can't handle the influx of water, they flood, as rivers have done and do. Now we are shocked and struggle with the disbelief that the river has risen above it's banks and is infringing on our property. We actually think that the weather conditions and environment have conspired against us to purposely destroy our lives and make us unhappy. I saw a magazine with the title story being "Nature's Fury"...what? Listen folks weather doesn't hold grudges or plan to personally destroy your house, car, family, friends, et al. Yes, we are part if it, and it of us, that's inescapable. Yet, weather just is. It does what it has, like I said earlier, for millions of years. It may respond to conditions we help create, but mostly it just, well...., acts naturally. It is that simple, for real.

All broadcast news, as I said before, sucks ass.

Rant ended.

Peace,
Patrick

Even after I wrote the journal entry, on my drive into work listening to NPR, in a report about the flooding, they just had to say that the river was "threatening" houses. What, was the river water lurking down my the banks shaking it's "fist" at the houses saying "I'm gonna get you!" What a picture that creates in your head, huh?
The weather is beginning to break, we're heading into the lower and mid 50s. I'll be getting the commuter together soon.

Love it ;) this personification of the weather (there's a more accurate word, but it escapes me at the moment)... Hell, anything that will take responsibility away from individuals I guess!

Threatening rivers, surly mudslides, and ne'er do well wind gusts.... hmph...

:peace: good to hear spring is threatening an appearance!
